Re: Why Nobody Reads Your Blog

A colleague of mine, the infamous ShoeMoney, wrote a wonderfully straight to the point blog post about, Why Nobody Reads You Blog. He touches on some really good points, that make a ton of common sense.

One of the main points really appears to be , BE YOURSELF! Do not just launch a blog or site JUST with the ambition of striking it rich. I can tell you from experience that that goal is hit or miss, these days it is really all about connecting with people, then sending a marketing message now and again. If your readers are interested in YOU they will then be interested in what you have to say about products and services.

There is one point that is obvious, though that is not touched on in this “specific post”. Even though you may have the best content in the world, you have to be proactive about self-marketing yourself. No one will do it for you (well unless you have a billion twitter followers hanging on your every 140 characters).

I own a site called TheGameReviews.com , when we first started the site we had a immensely talented base or talented journalists and editors. This was great! Our content was better than our competitors, well thought out, not blog like at all. BUT the site (while it was growing) was only growing by new visitors, not repeat traffic ?

This was a tad bit concerning. All of this effort and not even 5% returning to read?  So, we instituted a program with our authors to constantly self promote themselves. Behold, our return visitor rate tripled in less than a month.

All we did was have our authors:

A. Post a link to whatever content they wrote on forums that they frequented.
B. Twit, FB and in general socialize their own content as well as learn to promote others.
C. Learn to constantly monitor comments on what they wrote.  (I personally think this one is the key, engagement)

So, be yourself, as Shoe points out do not be afraid to post your opinion, Just do it! and then get the word out and engage!

What stories do you have that worked or failed?
